[Hong Kong] Jockey Club Autism Support Network (JC A-Connect) launched an educational website to raise awareness for autistic characteristics on 9 Apr. The website emphasizes that there shouldn’t be a stigma for autism and it is better to refer to individuals as having “autistic characteristics”. The website educates visitors to better understand the characteristics of autism and clears up misconceptions that some people may have about autism spectrum disorders. The need to have a support network for individuals with autistic characteristics have increased as the number of confirmed cases has changed from rare to common, the current common rate is 25 times that of the 1960s.
Children with autistic characteristics encounter different challenges in their growth, and they will need the support and tolerance of people around them. The website also provides different free online learning courses for parents, professional staff and the general public who are interested in supporting children with autistic characteristics. The courses are step by step topics related to autistic characteristics that can help support children with autistic characteristics in different areas.
